ABOVE: "Lady Justice" originally appeared in The Newaeon Newsletter, Volume V, Number 5, of November 1986 E.V. Below appeared this caption: "Merere Iustitia et Defendere Thelema: 'To Serve Justice and Defend Thelema' (merere: to serve as a warrior, not as a slave)" and it continued to point out that the initials of the motto, M.I.D.Th., in Greek characters, came to the numeration of 63, the same as "Kiblah" (CCXX III.10) and "Alala!" a war-cry. It may be noted that in Part II of Book 4, where much is said of the Sword, it has been written that "If the Sword is raised towards the Crown, it is no longer really a sword. The Crown cannot be divided. Certainly the Sword should not be lifted." Intentionally was the Sword drawn held by Lady Justice not directly towards the Crown, but to one side, pointing both to Justice and to Wisdom on the Tree of Life, which the Sword of Reason serves. Upraised, Reason becomes Will and the Sword of destruction becomes the Wand of creation. Much more could be said of this simple drawing, but it is left to the ingenium of the student to discover for him- or herself the further implications of this work.
BELOW: This simple drawing of Soror Stella Orientis, otherwise known as Star, never made it to the pages of The Newaeon Newsletter but it certainly should have. I have always had a certain artistic talent, but I do not in the least consider myself an "artist". Nevertheless, Shou Rong Wu was so incredibly beautiful, a living work of art, that it was practically impossible to draw or paint a "bad" picture of her.
